OUR HISTORY

Our Sport boast ancient origins: the first international equestrian competition took place in Torino in 1902, but horseracing competitions were already organised since 1840. CACCIA 6 zona Capannelle 18 dicembre 1905

In 1823 King Carlo Felice di Sardegna established the Royal Eqeustrian MIlitary School at Venaria Reale, which later in 1849 moved to Pinerolo and was meant

to become the center of all equestrian activity in Italy, both for civilians

and officers. In 1865 the Military Cavalry School leaves Pinerolo and is combined

in Modena with the

MIlitary Infantry School, thus named “Scuola Militare di Fanteria e Cavalleria”.

It is the Institute, still existing nowadays, known as Military Academy.

It was then deemed that a military institute dedicated to Equestrianism

would not fit in a town

and as a consequence it was considered appropriate to move the School to Tor di Quinto in Rome in 1891. Tor di Quinto is a “branch” of Pinerolo

and the equestrian training is then carried out both in the piedmont village and in the roman branch, where the large spaces of the countryside allow for a wider range of equestrian activities.

With the foundation of Tor di Quinto site and the new riding-school in Pinerolo, Equestrianism became itself the training to canter and jumping in the open countryside. What is missing is the harmony between the horse and the rider, in fact the obstacles are approached more as an act of courage rather than out of technique.

The Equestrianism as the one belonging to the “old” school in fact is at its decline and a new concept is dawning. The school between the XIX and XX centuries lives in fact a deep renovation that allows it to get a primacy in the Italian Army besides a leading role internationally. It is right in this period that the complete application of the “natural System” of riding studied and elaborated by the Capt. Federigo Caprilli.

Capt. Caprilli, pondering about the current methods, realises the incompleteness of the efforts of his predecessors and with a brilliant intuition understands the need of distributing the rider’s weight according to the horse’s balance and sensations. The “natural riding” as a method or system is taking shape: based on the natural balance between horse/rider uproots the traditional way of riding, so far in use. The method shows from the very beginning excellent results both in military training and sporting application.

The interest raised by the new method is large both in Italy and abroad and in a short time the School and its site become known worldwide as the very first training grounds for equestrianism.

In 1911 the first national organisation body is founded with the name of “Società per il Cavallo Italiano da Sella”, then called “Società per il Cavallo Italiano”, which in the year 1926 gets its CONI Membership changing then its denomination into Italian Equestrian Federation.
