AUSTRIA’S JOHANNA SIXT WINS FIRST INDIVIDUAL JUMPING QUALIFIER Jumping got underway today in the Bacocchi Arena at the FEI European Pony Championships in Arezzo, Italy with a win for Austria’s Johanna Sixt riding Lilly Vanilly. From a starting field of 52, the super-speed partnership scorched home in a time of 72.75 seconds in the 1.30m Speed class which was the First Individual Qualifier. Runner-up spot went to Denmark’s Jessica Toelstang and Nikoline who crossed the line in 74.62, while 2012 team and individual and team gold medallist, Great Britain’s Millie Allen, slotted into third with Song Girl in a time of 77.23.
As course-designer, Pier Francesco Bazzocchi, predicted yesterday, the distances between fences played a critical role with riders obliged to make their own stride-pattern. The course included three doubles and, on many occasions, they left all the poles up until hitting the very last fence. However 15 recorded clear rounds while two pony-and-rider combinations collected just a single time fault.
The Team Jumping competition will take place tomorrow (Friday) beginning at 8am local time.
